This beautiful oval box is a creation of L. Kiselyova. In the center of the lid she depicts a mother-bird that carries food in its beak to its nestlings while all around this scene she paints beautiful flowers, ripe berries, various plants and trees. The box's exterior is decorated with intricate gold ornaments. On the box's sides these ornaments are accented with red tempera paint.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on four rounded legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Kholui and the title (“Birds”).
