Description: The eclectic talents of Nikolay Galda are responsible for this intense representation of legend. His ability to craft detail is second to none. This is a primary reason why his compositions are so thoroughly sought after. His imagination has been painted across the surface of this intriguing piece.
The box shows several scenes from the popular Russian folk tale "Ivan Tsarevich and the Grey Wolf". The tale tells about the adventures of the Prince Ivan Tsarevich and his friend, the Grey Wolf. The Wolf ate the horse of Ivan Tsarevich and to redress a wrong, he helped Ivan in several quests: to get a firebird, to get a horse with a golden mane, and to get a beautiful princess.
The multi-scened composition shows several events seemingly taking place simultaneously and within close proximity. This is in fact an icon-painting device that disregards time and space in order to more fully tell the story.
In the right bottom corner there is the old tsar who is in despair
