Description: Sergey Dmitriev is the gifted artist who painted this gorgeous box. His art and his style are a product of self evolution which he has worked very hard on. He has made himself into a great artist by using his God-given talents to their fullest. It isn't surprising that his work gets better with every painting he completes.
Here Dmitriev has chosen to depict a recognizable scene from Pushkin's "Tale of Golden Cockerel". It features the moment when Tsar Dadon receives the magic golden cockerel from the astrologer and in return promises to fulfill any of the astrologer's wishes.
The scene painted in bright tempera paints is enriched by very fine and delicate gold paint added over the drawing, giving the work a magic glow. Gold metal leaf shines through the golden cockerel creating a very beautiful visual effect.
The box's exterior is decorated with luxuriant gold patterns. On the sides these gold patterns are accented with silver metal paint.
The box is made of paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on four rounded legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Kholui, the year of 2006 and the title at the bottom of the scene. The same inscription can be on the lid's interior, with an additional confirmation that it is the original author's work, and here you can also find the artist's signature.
