This beautiful panorama of the Moscow Kremlin was painted by Kholui artist Kopienko Olga. Olga is a wife of famous Kholui artist Alexander Kopienko. Family resides in town of Yuzha.
In the middle of the composition she depicts the St. Basil's Cathedral. The cathedral was commissioned by Ivan the Terrible in 1555 and was completed 6 years later. In the background we can see several cathedrals of the Moscow Kremlin including the Assumption Cathedral, the Annunciation Cathedral, the Archangel Cathedral; and also the Belfry of Ivan the Great, the Great Kremlin Palace and the Senate building.
The palette is very bright and the colors are extremely radiant. Silver paint smoothly outlined the detail of the architecture in the scene, especially, cupolas of the cathedrals. Gold enlivens the colors and brings out their beauty. The lines in the buildings are rigid, accurate, and follow the correct proportions all the way through. When her brush leaves the buildings we see smooth flowing lines that depict the snow and the clouds.The details of composition are amazing!
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache made. The exterior of the piece is painted with black lacquer while the interior is painted with red lacquer. Gold ornamentation with silver dots frames the scene and wraps around the sides of the box. The lid is hinged and the box rests on four legs. It is signed with the artist's name, title and village.
