This is a fresh original work from the prominentt Kholui artist Yugeniy Dobrin. It is called "Spring has Come", and shows the young people who welcome the beginning of spring. In the backround the artist has painted the allegory of spring.
Dobrin paints with a unique style, incorporating varied color shades, and layered textures. The drawing is quite fine, with small details in the characters' faces and costumes, some architecture and the landscape. The figures show the influence of icon art, with their stylized appearance and slightly elongated figures. The scene is richly enhanced with gold and aluminum metallic paint that adds a rich brightness to the work. Dobrin's skill as an artist is further demonstrated on the rich gold and aluminum ornamentation that adorns the box.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. At the bottom of the scene painted on the lid Dobrin has written his name, the title, Kholui and the year of 2007.
