Description: Andrey Bayov of Kholuy is the talented master responsible for the exceptional art work displayed here. Flawless drawing filled with the most tantalizing palette imagination can afford. An extremely clear compositional structure that identifies the master as a true professional.
The composition depicted on this box comes from the fairy tale, "Ruslan and Ludmilla." The story was originally written in free verse by the most famous of all Russian poets and writers, Alexander Pushkin in 1817. In the center of the composition we can the Giant Head. The left bottom corner shows Ruslan who is going to fight the Giant Head while the left upper corner depicts Chernomor flying in the sky. In the right upper corner the artist has painted Ruslan approaching Chernomor's palace and in the right bottom corner he has drawn the Old Finn who reveals Ruslan the secret of the magic sword.
The palette is very rich. The colors t range from green to brown and red to blue. Bayov also uses gold and aluminum contouring to intensify some areas of the composition.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The exterior is decorated with intricate gold ornaments accented with aluminum. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, Kholui, and the year of 2008.
