Description: Sergey Dmitriev is the gifted artist who painted this gorgeous box. His art and his style are a product of self evolution which he has worked very hard on. He has made himself into a great artist by using his God-given talents to their fullest. It isn't surprising that his work gets better with every painting he completes.
Here Dmitriev has chosen to depict a recognizable scene from Pushkin's “Tale of Golden Cockerel”. Tsar Dadon comes back to his native kingdom with his young beautiful wife, the Shemakha Queen.
The scene painted in orange, red and crimson tempera paints. This bright palette is enriched by very fine and delicate gold paint added over the drawing, giving the work a magic glow. The work demonstrates the artist's talent of a miniature-painter as he managed to find place for sixteen human figures and six brilliantly painted horses within the limited space of the box.
The scene is painted with a gold scrolling pattern. The box's sides are decorated with Dmitriev's signature luxuriant gold ornaments accented with aluminum.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the composition for ease of opening, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Kholuy, the year of 2008 and the title (“Golden Cockerel”) on the lid's interior.
