Description: This small, but very detailed box was painted by a talented Kholuy artist, Veronika Veselova. Veronika is a daughter of famous Kholui Master, Mikhail Veselov. The box is an absolute treasure, it features major charackters from the tale of the Humpbacked Little Pony.
In the beginning of the story, when one of three sons- Ivan caught the magic mare that trampled down wheat on his father's field. This mare promised Ivan to present three foals in exchange for freedom. Later two of these foals turned into the steeds with golden manes while the third one turned into the Humpbacked Little Pony. The old greedy Tsar obliged Ivan to fulfill different tasks, and the Humpbacked Little Pony always helped him. And in the end of a story instead of the tsar Ivan dipped himself in three cauldrons of boiling water, boiling milk and ice cold water, and transformed into a very handsome young man and the Tsar only boiled in the first one...
Most of the figures are painted with a traditional method that uses repetition of shapes and contrasting colors to create a beautiful details.
Throughout the piece his characters are expressive and painted with subtle blending and natural expressions. Their clothes are painted with a wide array of shades, to create natural folds and draping. This same technique is used to paint the Humpbacked Pony's handsome musculature, and modeled face.
Veselova has precisely defined each minute detail with a single hair brush!
The exterior of this box was painted with black lacquer and the interior was painted with red lacquer. The sides of the lid are ornamented with gold scroll work, accented at the middle with red dots.
The lid of this box is hinged to the top of the box, and the box rests on four feet which emerge gracefully from the bottom of the box. Upon completing his work, Veronika Veselova signed the bottom of the lid composition, along with the title and village name of Kholui and the year of 2015.
