This unique and fascinating composition is from the mind and workbench of Daniil Molodkin from Mstera. His works are always notable for fantastic representation of different subjects and bright, multicolored coloring. Having painted this unusual scene, Daniil continued his series of works showing fantastic creatures - little blue men who catch bugs and live in grass world.
The depicted scene transports the viewer into the world of fantasy and fairy-tale. Whimsical multi-colored plants, the yellow sky, a strange little man with green face and blue hair, who resembles a dwarf or an elf, act together to excite fantasy of the viewer. The scene is bright and colorful. It seems that the artist used here all shades of the rainbow. Gold paint is used to decorate the extraordinaire costume of the little man, and also to accentuate some plants, bugs and the net.
The composition is framed by a line of gold paint, and then precisely painted gold scrollwork frames the scene. Molodkin has incorporated his signature and the title of the box into the scrollwork at the bottom of the lid. More detailed vine and floral filigree in metallic gold ornaments the sides of the box, which sits flat. The lid is hinged from the left side of the composition. Black lacquer covers the exterior of the box, while red lacquer covers the interior of the box.
