Description: This box that shows a humorous scene was painted by Alexander Gaun from the village of Mstera. Two lads peep at girls taking a steam bath inside the bathhouse. The thrilling spectacle has absorbed them and they don't notice that other girls intend to punish them for this indecent occupation. The girls run closer and closer and soon the hooligans will be beaten and cold water will be thrown over them.
The composition is painted in the peculiar for Gaun's creativity style. The palette is bold and based on beautiful combinations of red and orange tones. The edges of the lid and the box's sides are adorned with beautiful floral patterns painted in gold and aluminum.
The box is constructed from paper-mache made in the village of Mstera. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged and the box rests on a flat bottom. On the bottom of the box the artist paints in gold the title of the piece, "Bathhouse", the village of Mstera, his original signature, and the following verse: "The lads have gathered under the bathhouse's window. They can see many interesting things through it. They can see an affecting spectacle through this wondrous window. This window is even better than cinema."
