Tatyana Strunina, a daughter of the outstanding Mstera master Piotr Sosin, is the artist who painted this box. The work is called "Troika in the town of Suzdal". It shows three mighty steeds driven by a restless coachman and pulling the sledge. A loving couple sits inside the sledge and look at the beautiful countryside views they are passing by. In the background the artist depicts the town of Suzdal, painting in details its majestic cathedrals.
The composition is painted in the traditional for Mstera School palette where predominate blue, green, yellow and brownish tones. Gold paint is used to detail the architecture, the steeds, the characters' costumes, and some other elements.
Beautiful gold floral ornamentation decorates the edges of the lid and the box's sides. The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid isn't hinged and rests on a small platform. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Mstera, and the title.
