This enchanting piece of authentic Russian artistry was composed by Mstera master Anatoliy Shirokov. His works exude harmony among color and design. Fairy tale animation that is extremely balanced. A handsome addition to any collection, refined beauty.
The painting is based on the popular story of "The Sleeping Princess." This story was originally put to pen by French writer Charles Perrault when he published his collection of fairy tales "Stories of Olden Times" in 1697. The French title of the tale was "La belle au bois dormant," which means "The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood." The story has since been adopted into various versions in the many countries of the world; in Russia it is known as Sleeping Princess written by A.S. Pushkin.
Here, the handsome Prince Yelisey arrives to awaken the Princess who has fallen asleep due to the wicked wish of a neglected fairy. The people of the kingdom have been throttled into a nap as well. The Prince will kiss the sleeping Princess, and at this moment everybody in the enchanted kingdom, including the beautiful Princess will wake up. Falling in love with each other at first sight, the Prince and the Princess will marry and live happily.
Besides the main characters of the story including the Sleeping Princess, Prince Yelisey, several inhabitants of the kingdom that also are fallen asleep, the artist also depicts the spindle in the right bottom corner, the crescent surrounded with stars in the upper left corner, the image of a loving couple on the blue sky at the top of the composition that is the symbol of love, and the beautiful fairy tale landscape.
Cool blues and an olive based compilation of earth tones dominate the lid's artistry. Shirokov is a master of layering and this is reflected through the texture of the landscape and the leaves of the tress. He uses gold paint and aluminum paint, which helps to enhance the colors on in the composition and attract light a good amount of light.
Beautiful and elaborate floral patterns painted in gold and aluminum frame the composition. The same floral patterns painted in gold and aluminum decorate the sides of the box, the only difference is that they are enriched with the images of forest flowers, vases filled with fruits and branches of an apple three.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while bright red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge has been fastened to the left of the composition, and the box has four legs on a bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, village and title.
