Description: This elegant box for needles has been made by Inna Tikhomirova from the village of Mstera. It displays an episode from the fairy-tale "Turnip". The plot of this tale is very interesting. The huge turnip grew in the kitchen garden. Nobody could pull it out of the land. The old man tried, the old woman tried, the grandson tried, the granddaughter tried, the dog tried, the cat tried, but everything was in vain. Suddenly the mouse ran by them wagged its tail, and only then the turnip was pulled out from the land.
The scene is painted in bright yellow, green and red paints against the black background. Gold is used to add different details.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The edges of the lid and the box's sides are adorned with gold ornamentation. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition, and the box rests on a flat bottom.
The box is constructed to hold a chain in it.
The work is signed and titled ("Tale about Turnip") by the artist. The exterior bottom of the box also includes "the Mstera insignia" stamped in gold paints.
