This charming piece was created by artist Yuriy Alexandrovich Zhigalov. Zhigalov studied under E.N Zonina and N.D Dmitriev. He is a specialist in floral compositions using the tempera art technique and gold paints in his art work. Zhigalov's miniatures differ from others because of his thin gold scroll work and by the fine technique of execution. The artist believes that his compassionate style is easy to remember due to its detailed painting, themes, colors, paints, and overall quality of his compositions.
The work is called "Golden Bouquet". It is painted in subdued green, red and blue tones and richly detailed with gold paints. The lid is decorated with beautiful gold floral patterns dominated by a blossom of rose in each corner. Intricate gold ornamentation also wraps around the box's sides.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on four rounded legs. Signed with the name of the artist, the village of Mstera and the title.
