Description: This beautiful piece of authentic Russian craftsmanship was created by Mikhail Strunin from the village of Mstera. The composition depicts two falconers holding falcons in their hands, and intending to let them fly up high into the sky.
"Falconer" was a post in the household of Grand Princes. Falconers had to supply game to the tsar's court and got some benefits therefore. In the background we can see the beautiful panorama of the Moscow Kremlin.
Green and brown tones of various shades dominate here. The domes of the cathedrals are highlighted with gold and aluminum paint. Gold is also used to detail the costumes of the characters, and some other elements.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The box isn't hinged and rests on a small platform. The box is signed with the artist's name, the village of Mstera and the title ("Falconers").
