Description: This gorgeous box was painted by Mikhail Strunin from the village of Mstera. It depicts a picturesque view of the Moscow Kremlin in the middle ages. Probably, working on this box the artist used an old engraving.
Painted in yellow-brownish palette this scene opens up a grandiose panorama before the viewer's eyes. White-stone cathedrals and splendid palaces rise above the embankment of Neglinka River. The composition is structurally correct, and the sky's depth is amazing. The overall detail on the scene is simply incredible!
The edges of the lid are the box's sides are decorated with complex gold patterns.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The box isn't hinged and rests on a small platform. The box is signed with the artist's name, the village of Mstera and the title ("Moscow Kremlin").
