Description: This traditional Mstera box has been drawn by Svetlana Trondina. The work is called "Cutting Wood", and shows a scene from peasant everyday life. The color palette is dominated by green, blue and red tones of tempera paints. Gold paint is used to enhance various details throughout the scene.
Trondina was born in 1974. She finished the Mstera Art School in 1996 where her teacher was Denis Molodkin. She is a participant of regional, All-Russian and foreign exhibitions (England). Her works are kept in the fund of the Russian Museum (St. Petersburg) and in private collections. Trondina's works are notable for expressive characters, dynamism, liveliness and strict observance of all traditions in the Mstera lacquered miniature painting.
The scene is outlined with gold. The edges of the lid and the box's sides are adorned with intricate gold foliage patterns.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with Mstera, the title, and the artist's name at the bottom of the scene.
