To focus the viewer's attention on the characters, the artist has drawn them in bright red and green tones whereas the surrounding landscape is painted in brown tones. The scene is richly detailed with shining gold paint.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior and red lacquer to paint the interior of the piece. Very beautiful gold designs decorate the box's exterior.
