Antonina Medvedeva once again holds up her reputation for painting quality winter scenes. Here she has painted happy Russian peasants enjoying a sunny winter day. They make a snowman, play snowballs, sledge and ride a troika.
The palette is filled with cool, blue colors to reproduce an atmosphere of a cold winter day. The edges of the lid are decorated with intricate gold and silver patterns painted against the light green background. The box's sides are decorated with gold leafy ornaments.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Mstera and the title (“Russian Winter”).
