Description: This box that shows a humorous scene was painted by Alexander Gaun from the village of Mstera. Three peasants sit inside the house and drink vodka. In the neighboring room their comrade hugs a girl. Another peasant stands on the porch and opens the door intending to come into the house.
The title includes the following verse:
"The neighbor opens the door anxiously, and says:
"...some important occasion has led me here!
and saying it he thinks:
"Will I be invited to dine with the host or not..."
The composition is painted in the typical for Gaun's creativity style. The palette is bold and based on beautiful combinations of red and orange tones.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid's composition and the four sides of the base are all decorated with gold and aluminum floral patterns. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the composition, and the box sits on a flat bottom. The artist signature, village, verse and title can be found right underneath of composition.
