Description: This cylinder box has extensive paintings around the body, one round composition on the lid. The creator of this work is Mikhail Strunin from the village of Mstera. It is another piece from his series of works dedicated to Old Moscow. Working on it, Strunin used the old paintings drawn in the 18-19th centuries. So, looking at it, the viewer has a splendid opportunity to imagine how ancient Moscow looked like.
On the top of the box we can see a Boyar on a horse.
The front side of the box's body depicts the view of St.Basil's Cathedral on a Red Square of Moscow.
On the sides of this cylinder the artist depicted the view of St.Basil's Cathedral on a Red Square of Moscow, Tsar Cannon and Moscow Kremlin.
To paint this box the artist has used brown, red, and yellow-orange tones that are traditional for the Mstera Art School palette. Gold paint used to detail only the scene painted on the box's lid. Each object is outlined with gold.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is not hinged, and the box's bottom has a concave shape.
The box is signed by the artist at the interior's bottom of the box.
