Description: Painted by renowned artist Olga Strunina, this composition features a scene from peasant life. It's the early summer and the small tree painted in the foreground is still covered with fragile white blossoms. But, look! It's a wonder! The apples have already ripened. All villagers, old and young, gather and eat them with pleasure.
Strunina, daughter of famous Mstera artist Lev Fomichev, has taken the skill inherited from her father and added her own flair and talent to become an accomplished artist in her own right. She is now married to Konstantin Strunin, another well-known artist.
The palette is very pleasing to the eye. It is filled with soft greens, yellows and reds. The composition on the lid is very well balanced and formally presented on the paper-mache canvas. The artist's lines are smooth and transition from one another look very beautiful within the composition.
A thin line of gold paint outlines the composition. On the lid, Strunina has painted stunning radial filigree around the scene, featuring detailed flowers and foliage. The box's sides are decorated with the same floral ornamentation, but it is additionally accented with red and green tempera paints. Strunina wrote the village name "Mstera", the year 2005, the title "Early Apples," and signed her name at the bottom of the composition.
