Description:

This splendid box was painted by the established Mstera painter Vera Stepanovna Korsakova . (was born in 1919). She was one of the artists who managed to develop a new style in the art of Mstera lacquer painting. She started to depict on her boxes only beautiful floral patterns richly detailed with gold paints. This box represents this unique, decorative style.
In the center of the composition there is a circle. Within the boundaries of this circle the artist depicts three beautiful birds, and dozens of various flowers and foliage that make up the united pattern. This pattern painted in gold paints and accentuated with red and green tempera paints is depicted against the dark crimson background. The circle is framed with intricate gold filigree patterns. Outside the boundaries of the circle there is innumerable number of bouquets composed of wild flowers. The flowers are painted with gold paints, and accentuated with red, crimson, mustard and green tempera paints. Here different elements (scrolls, tendrils, leaves, rosettes and plants) make up intricate patterns, and all of them are combined to create a complex and beautiful composition on the lid of the box.
Luxuriant gold floral patterns painted with a great skill frame the composition, and wrap around the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache made in the village of Mstera. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed by the artist.
