Description: This enchanting piece of authentic Russian artistry was created by famous Mstera master Vladimir Molodkin. His elaborate style is well established in the lacquer community. Molodkin's works are exhibited at the All-Russia Museum of Decorative and Folk Arts in Moscow. He does much more than simply paint quality compositions. Molodkin's pieces transport us into a world of enhanced imagination. Mood altering artistry.
The work is called "Winter", and features the allegorical depiction of winter. She roams about in the fields and woods, passing by small villages and big countries. Her every step marks the beginning of winter.
The composition is originally designed, and divided into two parts. The left shows the summer season, while the right one depicts the winter season as the Winter who is roaming about the planet has touched the ground with her feet.
A soothing palette of cool tones brings winter's imagery to life. The artist uses fine gold strokes to define and highlight the scene. This helps to convey the magic and joy of the season. A multiplicity of characters and character action develop the picturesque moment like never before. The wide eyed facial expressions. The glide of movement. The precise execution on an infinite scale. They all lend themselves in the artistic creation of a magical art form.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while a brilliant red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The edges of the lid and the box's sides are decorated with gold floral patterns accented with aluminum paints. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition for ease of opening. The box rests on four feet. The work is signed, and titled by the artist.
