Description: This work is a creation of Piotr Sosin from the village of Mstera. It continues the artist's famous series of works dedicated to the Russian resorts, and features the Caucasian health resort "Esentuki". Esentuki is the oldest balneotherapeutic and mud health resort in Russia. It was founded in 1839. Here people cure a wide range of diseases including the diseases of nervous system, skin, gynecology and many others. The mineral water labeled with "Esentuki" is very popular in Russia, and can be bought in each shop.
Sosin depicts some sights of the resort, creating an impression of a happy, fairy-tale place. The landscape is in harmony with the festive architectural scene. The composition is painted in the traditional palette for the Mstera branch of lacquer miniature painting. Predominance is given to yellow, brown, red and green tones. Gold paint is used with great subtlety to accent many areas of the composition.
Each scene is framed with silver beads. The edges of the lid are decorated with gold and aluminum ornamentation. Intricate gold pattern completed with two strings of gold beads adorn the box's sides.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Mstera, and the title.
