This grandiose work that depicts a familiar biblical subject has been painted by Alexander Gaun from the village of Mstera. The painting style of this painter is always easily recognizable; it is notable for high quality of execution, original coloring and unique interpretation of well-known subjects.
Here Alexander has painted the episode from chapter 7 of Moses's first book called "Genesis". This chapter describes the Flood, and miraculous rescue of Noah and his family. When God decided to punish people for their sins, Noah was rescued because he was a righteous and immaculate man. God said: "I'll annihilate people for their sins, but you, Noah, will be alive. Build the big Ark to find place for all your family, and also for male and female birds and animals. When I wash the planet with the Flood, you will be saved". So, at the top of the composition we can see the Noah's Ark, and a little above angels pour water to flood sinful mankind. The rest part of the composition is covered with the images of sinners, who try to survive finding shelters on the highest picks of mountains, but everything is in vain, they all are destined to die.
