Valentin Tikhomirov of Mstera is a creator of this genuine Russian artistry. Painting style of this artist is well known to any lacquer miniature enthusiast. The work is based on the Pushkin's "Tale of Tsar Saltan". It includes nine scenes separated from each other with Tikhomirov's trademark ornamentation performed in the Byzantine style. Such a variety of scenes that show various moments of the tale help the viewer to remember its thrilling plot. Three scenes depicted at the bottom feature the tale's beginning. The central bottom scene depicts Tsar Saltan and his wife riding in troika. From the right of this scene we can see the envious sisters slandering Tsar Saltan's wife by saying that tsaritsa has given birth not to a child but to a little monster.
