Description: This marvelous box has been created by Mikhail Strunin. It shows how the Moscow gentry of the XVII century spent their past time. On the lid the artist depicts the open-air merrymaking in the park of Sokolniki. On each of the box's sides he continues to paint historically truthful views of medieval Moscow.
Working on this box Strunin has used the traditional Mstera school palette filled with soft blues, greens, yellows, browns and reds. Some details are enhanced with gold metal paint.
The box's exterior is decorated with intricate and very beautiful floral ornaments.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged at the top, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the name of the artist, the village of Mstera, and the title ("Moscow of XVII century - the open-air merrymaking in the park of Sokolniki").
