Description: This unique and fascinating composition is from the mind and workbench of Daniil Molodkin. Daniil is making his name heard worldwide. His style has caught the attention of the most discerning eyes and it is always hard to come by on the lacquer art market. He has created a fun view into the future of Mstera and lacquer art on the whole.
The box shows a humorous scene that is entitled "Five Blue Bugcatchers". Blue bugcatchers are the frequent characters of Molodkin's works. They live in grass in their cozy houses and catch bugs with their nets. The lanky fellow depicted here seems to be their friend. The blue bugcatchers are not afraid of him. One of them rolls an apple along his back, another one catches the bug that sits on his hat, and the third one sits on his knee and catches bugs. The fourth dwarf rides the swings that the lanky fellow holds in his hand and the fifth one sits on his chamber-pot inside his house and reads the book about blue bugs.
The palette is a wide array of blues, greens, with addition of bright red, orange and yellows that makes Daniil's compositions uniquely his own. Molodkin's application of gold enhances the fairy-tale energy that the piece brings with it. The clothing of the gnomes are expertly detailed with a wide variety of flowered gold designs. The plants depicted in the foreground are also expertly detailed with shining gold paint.
The depicted scene is outlined with gold. Gold ornamentation frames the scene and wraps around the sides of the box. On the box's sides this gold ornamentation is bigger in size and accented with aluminum.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. A hinge has been fastened along the top of the composition and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Mstera and the title.
