This colorful and lovable piece by popular Mstera artist Daniil Molodkin shows a recognizable scene from Lewis Carroll's classic tale “Alice in Wonderland”. Here he has painted Alice's conversation with the Caterpillar who sits on the big mushroom and smokes the hookah.
The palette that the artist uses a wide array of blues, greens, and earthtones to convey the natural setting in the scene. Gold as always, is used to enhance the details in the box and to fully bring the colors to life.
The depicted scene is framed with a line of gold paint. Precise and tightly wound gold foliage pattern decorates the edges of the lid. Similar gold foliage pattern accented with aluminum wraps around the base the box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Mstera, the title and the year of 2009.
