Description: Talented Artist Mozhaeva from the village of Mstera has painted this colorful box. It is based on the Pushkin's "Tale of Old Fisherman and the Golden Fish". In this tale the old fisherman caught the magic golden who promised to fulfill all his wishes. The fisherman was a simple-minded man who didn't want anything but his greedy wife forced him to ask the fish to fulfill more and more wishes. In the end the fisherman's wife was punished by the magic golden fish.
The box depicts the recognizable moment from the tale when the Old Fisherman caught the Magic Golden Fish. The scene is painted in bright blue, red, orange and brown tempera paints. Gold is used to paint the golden fish, the sparkling horizon behind the fisherman's back, and to detail the ship painted in the background.
The scene is framed with a gold line. The box's sides are adorned with intricate gold floral patterns accented with aluminum paint.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The exterior of the box is painted with black lacquer while the interior is completed with dark red lacquer. The lid is hinged at top, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title and the village of Mstera.
