Description: This large sumptuous box has been painted by the leading Mstera artist, Daniil Molodkin. He likes to paint his works on fantastical themes but this time he has chosen to paint his box on the theme of a Russian bylina (Russian heroic epic). The left part of the composition depicts Ilya Muromets who is the most famous of Russian bogatyrs. He is presented here like a saint man who saved Russia from Solovey Razboyinik (also known as the Evil Bandit the Nightingale Whistler) who symbolizes the Mongol over-lordship. The left part of the composition is painted in light tones of tempera paints to express the idea of laborious Russian people who believe in God and don't want to be at war with anybody while the right part of the composition is painted in dark tones of tempera paints because it represents enemies of the Russian state who want to oppress Russian people and capture their land. Gold paint is used to create a sparkle of the characters chain armor, to detail the sun and the architecture. Gold paint is also used to decorate the box's exterior with intricate and very beautiful ornaments.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, Mstera and the year of 2010
