Description: This spectacular composition was painted by a well-known Mstera artist Alexander Dogadin. Composition is showing several scenes from Russian Fairy Tale "Frog Princess".
A powerful Tsar noticed that it was time for his three sons to be wed. He summoned them all at once and told them to each fire a single arrow into the air. The closest maiden to each fallen arrow would become that son's wife. Ivan and his two brothers shoot arrows into the air to find their future brides. A frog catches Ivan's arrow and this is who he is obligated to marry.
The colors taken from Dogadin's palette are extremely pleasing to the eye. Various shades of blue, yellow and red are dominate here. Contrast is spectacular!
The composition is painted in an round, the rest of the lid is covered with a beautiful ornament painted in gold. The decoration of the sides is marvelous! It has a form of intricately arranged flowers and foliage. Its coloring alternates between red and gold.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top and the box rests on four legs. The artist wrote his name, the title and the village name of Mstera at the bottom of the composition in gold paint.
