Description: The famous Mstera artist Pyotr Sosin created this complex composition featuring several episodes from the Russian legend "Stavr Godinovich and Vasilisa Mikulichna".
The main heroine of this legend is a young woman Vasilisa Mikulichna. She came to Kiev to save her husband Stavr Godinovich who had been taken prisoner by Prince Vladimir. During the feast arranged in the palace of Prince Vladimir, Stavr Govinovich carelessly boasted that he surpassed the Prince in wealth. Vladimir was outraged! He had Stavr Godinovich imprisoned for his blatant disrespect. The only hope for Stavr Godinovich was his beautiful wife, Vasilisa Mikulichna. She cut off her beautiful long hair and disguised herself in the man's costume. Later she managed to deceive Vladimir and conquer two bogatyrs: Alesha Popovich and Dobrynya Nikitich. The end of this legend is happy. Vasilisa saved her husband, and they successfully returned to their kingdom.
The colors are alive and full of turbulence. Red, blue, green and mustard orange tones predominate here. Gold and aluminum paints are used to add various details.
The box's exterior is decorated with gold floral ornamentation.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four rounded legs. The work is signed and titled by P. Sosin.
