This box is a creation of the famous Mstera artist, Vladimir Molodkin. The work is called "Market Day", and shows happy villagers of Mstera enjoying a merry fair arranged in the Mstera market. In the middle of the background we can see the Monastery of the Epiphany situated in the village of Mstera that was the center of icon painting and gave birth to the art of Mstera lacquered miniature painting.
The major scene show Mstera villagers having fun at the market.
To paint this work the artist has used a subtle palette of tempera paints. Various details are enhanced with brilliant gold paint. The box is constructed from paper-mache.
The exterior of the box is covered with black lacquer, while the interior is painted red. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title and the village of Mstera on the inner surface of the lid.
