This enchanting ball-shape box by prominent Mstera artist Valentin Tikhmirov is called "In the Summer Park". It shows representatives of Russian pre-revolutionary nobility enjoying a sunny summer day in the park. Elegant ladies and gentlemen stroll along the old trees, some of them ride, the others talking, walking or sit on a bench in a shadow of the trees...
Here the artist has used his usual palette filled with greens and blues. The characters are simple but very well executed. Good technique, sense of balance, and linear structuring make this box a feast for the eyes.
The box's exterior is decorated with elegant gold ornamentation, it devides the paintings in four parts.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The ball-shaped part isn't hinged and sits on a base and the base rests on a platform with four legs. Signed with the artist's name, the title and the village of Mstera on the box's base exterior.
