This jolly work was painted by the outstanding Palekh artist Anastasia Denisenko. It shows the grasshopper riding on the turtle. The scene is painted in bright tempera paints, and detailed with gold paints.
The edges of the lid are decorated with a string of elegant ornamentation painted in gold and aluminum. The same parallel strings can be found on the box's sides, together with supplementary designs painted in yellow tempera paints.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache made in the village of Fedoskino. The interior of the box is covered with red lacquer, the box's exterior is covered with black lacquer. The lid is hinged, and the box sits flat. The work is signed and dated (2005) by the artist.
