This small box has been created by Alexey Lapshin from the village of Palekh. It features rather unusual subject: the primitive man is fishing on the riverbank. The drawing is skillfully painted in gold paints over the black lacquer.
The scene is framed with gold and aluminum beads. The sides of the box are decorated with more elaborate ornamentation composed of different plants.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the piece. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the village of Palekh, and the year of 2004.
