This marvelous box was painted by A. Khomyakova from the village of Palekh. It depicts the elf-girl sitting on the flower. She wears the beautiful blue dress, and has semi-transparent wings. Besides the main heroine the composition is filled with different flowers and plants, and various insects including butterflies, ladybirds, bees, etc.
The scene is painted over a lustrous gold background and that is why the box looks like a little treasure. The fantastic landscape extends on the box's sides and acts like original ornamentation. Metallic gold and aluminum paints highlight most of the elements of the scene, providing an additional luster to the magical composition. The small size of this box fits the theme perfectly.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The scene is framed with a gold line. The box isn't hinged and rests on three rounded feet. The work is singed with the artist's name, the village of Palekh and the year of 2005 at the bottom of the composition in gold paints.
