Title: Dwarfs-Gamblers
Artist: Ogir Dmitriy
Size: 10x7x3
Size (inches): 4x2.75x1.25
Price : $235 SOLD!

Dmitriy Ogir from the village of Palekh is a creator of this humorous scene. Two drunken dwarfs play cards for money. They sit in the wine-cellar, and have much alcohol to drink. Like Italian masters of the Middle Ages the artist fills this composition with ripe fruits, and barrels with wine to make it complete and aesthetically beautiful.
The scene is painted against the bright gold background. Silver spangles and multicolored pastes (glass beads) are scattered on the floor. A pink paste is glued to the hat's tip of the dwarf painted on the right.
The scene is framed by gold and aluminum wavy pattern accompanied by almost invisible multicolored spangles. The same pattern but a little bigger in size and without spangle accompaniment can be found wrapping around the box's bottom border. The box's sides are decorated with gold and aluminum floral pattern. The right and left corners on the front side are adorned with playing cards and dice painted in oils to continue the gambling theme.
The box is constructed from pressed paper. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged at the top, and the box rests on a flat bottom. Signed and dated (2006) by Ogir. Brilliant work!
