The quality of work that Maria and Sergey Gurilyev produce is tremendous. They paint boxes in tandem bringing together their strengths, which minimizes weaknesses that might show up if they were painting pieces alone. This is another one of the great examples of the Gurilyev couple that paints traditional Palekh pieces.
The box features the main characters from the Russian folk fairy-tale "Prince Ivan, the Fire Bird, and the Grey Wolf". The tale tells about the adventures of Prince Ivan Tsarevich and his friend, the Grey Wolf. The Wolf was magician, and helped Ivan to fulfill the tsar's orders: to get the firebird, to get the horse with the golden mane, and to get the beautiful princess. The scene shows a final moment of the story: Ivan is the owner of all three wonders
