Description: The Lewis Carroll's (1832-1898) classic tale "Alice in Wonderland" inspired Irina Peskova to create this stunning work. "Alice in Wonderland" is the favorite fairy-tale of Peskova who likes to paint the recognizable moments from this thrilling tale again and again.
The box shows Alice who meets the Cheshire Cat, the Rabbit dressed like a gentleman, the Caterpillar who sits on the big mushroom and smokes the hookah
in the magic world of Wonderland.
The scene is painted in bright and festive tones typical for all Peskova's works. Another distinctive characteristic of her painting style is decorating a composition with gold metal leaf inlay that is also used here. Gold paint adds minute details and highlights areas of importance in the scene.
The edges of the lid are decorated with a nice gold pattern accompanied with the images of playing cards painted in oils in the right and left upper corners. The box's sides are adorned with Peskova's style gorgeous gold and silver pattern completed with roses and playing cards shining with gold metal leaf inlay.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer was used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed and dated (2007) by the artist.
