E. Bonokina from the village of Palekh painted the traditional scene for Russian lacquer art of speeding troika. The horses are painted in traditional orange, white, and red tempera paints that look so beautiful against the black background. The scene is richly detailed with brilliant gold paint; the carriage that is almost entirely painted in gold shines festively. An impressive, traditional work.
The edges of the lid are adorned gold beads and a gold swirling line. The box's sides, and each of its four legs are adorned with complex gold floral ornaments accented with aluminum; gold beads wrap around the bottom part of the box's body.
The box is constructed from quality paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh, and the year of 2007.
