This charming small box has been painted by the talented husband and wife duet of Sergey and Marya Gurilyevy from the village of Palekh. These artists have participated in various art exhibitions and won many honorary rewards. Their works enjoy wide popularity among collectors all over the world.
The box shows a scene from the story of "Ded Mazay and Hares" written by Nikolay Nekrasov. The palette is very diverse but green, blue and brown tones predominate here. Gold and aluminum paint is used throughout the scene with exceptional skill that brings to life the colors in the composition.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The box's exterior is decorated with very beautiful gold patterns accented with aluminum. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the box rests on four rounded legs. The work is signed with the names of the artists, the year of 2005 and the village of Palekh.
