This beautiful Palekh box was created by Ivan Luzgin. It is painted on the theme of peasant everyday life, and shows lads and girls playing snowballs. The contrast of white bluish snow and the black lacquered background looks very beautiful here. Most of the fine detail is added with the use of gold and silver paint that touches every feature of the scene except for the snow.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box's exterior is decorated with intricate gold ornaments accented with aluminum. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh, and the year of 2005.
