Title: A Loving Letter
Artist: Denisenko Marina
Size: 6.5x8.5x3
Size (inches): 2.5x3.25x1.25
Price : $395 SOLD!

Marina Denisenko is a great Palekh artist who painted this romantic scene. Here she depicts the girl who is going to send a loving letter attached to the dove's leg. The dove is a symbol of her purity and her kind heart, while the red flower in the vase is a symbol of her passion that is ready to bud as soon as a letter, or a serenade, or a knock on the door from her love comes back.
The palette is very subdued and soft in tone. Brown tone seems to dominate the palette, while the artist uses blue and pink flowers, white paper and the bird to contrast the richness of the browns. Denisenko details everything with great intricacy and pays special attention to all of the minute flowers that are growing up the wooden frame like a vine. Gold is used with precision that outlines the features in the plants, the bird, the girl, and the table. With the black background there is a great depth and the eye is forced to be fixed to the foreground that is gleaming and sparkling with life. On the box's sides the artist continues to paint the same flowers that concentrated around the girl on the lid.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to cover the exterior and red lacquer to cover the interior of the box. The box has no hinge and rests on a flat bottom. The box is signed with the artist's name, Palekh and the year of 2003.
