Bogdanov Vladimir of Palekh is the artist who painted this traditional scene of speeding winter troika.
A lady traveled the snow-covered expanses of Russian countryside sitting in the sledge pulled at high speed by three mighty horses. The horses are painted in traditional orange, white, and red tempera paints that look so beautiful against the black background. Gold paint is used to detail the sledge, the characters' costumes and the horses' harness.On the background we can see the silhouettes of the village houses and a Church.
The edges of the lid and the box's sides are adorned with a golden ornament.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Palekh.
