This box is the creation of Olga Tsyganova from the village of Palekh. It shows the nanny singing a lullaby to the child sleeping in the cradle. Upper this scene the artist has written in gold paints a fragment from childish lullaby:

"A gray hen was running through the courtyard,
The gray hen saw a wondrous scene,
A landlord was riding a goat,
And the landlord's wife was riding a sheep,
And the landlord's children were grunting,
As if they were piglets,
They hindered little children to fall asleep.

The upper part of the composition displays the characters of this lullaby: the landlord riding a goat, and the landlord's wife riding a sheep.
Light brown and green tones predominate here. As customary with Palekh tradition, the black lacquer exterior of the box also acts as the background for the compositions. This adds a slick intensity and an overwhelming clarity to the work. The artist uses gold and aluminum to highlight and texture considerable portions of the artistry.
The composition is framed a pattern of golden beads. Complex gold and aluminum floral ornamentation decorates the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the work while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition. The box rests upon four feet. The work is signed and dated by the artist.
