Description: This box was painted by a talented Palekh artist Kukharkina in 1957.
The box shows a scene from the well-known Russian fairy-tale "Morozko".
The poor little girl sent to the forest by her cruel stepmother sits under the tree till Father Frost finds her. He blows at her with his frost breathing, but in spite of her suffering, the girl greets him politely and does not complain about her condition. Father Frost likes the girl for her kind heart, and rewards her with rich presents. (We can see a treasure chest near the girl on this composition).
The composition is framed with gold ornamentation. The box is made out of paper-mache, and covered with black lacquer. The interior is painted red. The box is hinged at the top of the composition, and rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh and 1957.
The box is used, but in good shape for these years!
