Description:

This box with a rare winter scene has been painted by a talented Palekh artist, Natalie Lukina.
It shows a peasant on skis carrying a bundle of firewood from the forest behind his shoulders. The villager looked back at the noise from the forest and to his surprise saw the winter-awakened bear.by far the best way to escape from a bear is to run away. surely the reckless skier threw a dead wood and ran away in the direction of the house, which we see in the background of the composition.
The palette is filled with various shades of cold whites and blues suitable for reproduction of a winter landscape. The figures of the characters are painted in orange and brown tones. Painting of human figure in bright, festive colors is a recognizable trait of the traditional style of Palekh lacquered miniature.
The paiting is framed with a gold wavy pattern; sides of the box are very well decorated with gold ornament.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box.
The lid is hinged at the top of the composition, and the box rests flat. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Palekh.
